Rod holds a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Queensland (1996) and has dedicated his professional career to agricultural development and policy. Since 1997, he has served the Queensland Government as an Agricultural Economist, currently holding the position of Manager, Economics within the Department of Primary Industries.

A member of the AHSA since the 1980s, Rod is also deeply involved with the Queensland Endurance Riders Association (QERA), having joined in 1988. A seasoned endurance competitor, Rod has served three two-year terms on the QERA State Management Committee and is currently the Vice President.

Rod’s passion for Arabian horses is exemplified through his stewardship of Shardell Arabian Stud, where he has bred over 250 horses, including approximately 130 exports. His stud typically runs between 70 and 85 horses, focusing on Crabbet/Egyptian cross lines suited for endurance competition.

Rod brings to the AHSA Board a wealth of experience in agriculture, equestrian sport, and Arabian horse breeding, and the Board looks forward to his contributions during this important phase of strategic development.
