Earlier this month, the AHSA Board invited me to fill a casual vacancy following the resignation of another Director. I have been appointed until the next election.Like many of you, I have a lifelong passion for the Arabian horse. Mine began as a love affair with horses more than six decades ago and eventually led to the small herd of Arabian and Arabian-bred horses known as Sa’Vey Arabians. My path here has also given me considerable practical business experience. I am a textile designer by profession and have built successful businesses in Adelaide and Melbourne. A little over a decade ago, we moved to Mansfield in North East Victoria where Sa’Vey Arabians is situated.

I accepted the Board position because I believe the AHSA has a vital role to play in the future of the Arabian breed in Australia. To fulfil that role, it must earn and retain the confidence of its members through sound governance, openness, accountability and ethical leadership. I bring commercially experienced eyes, practical judgement and a willingness to ask questions and speak plainly. My commitment is to represent the interests of members and to contribute constructively to a Board that is transparent, responsible and focused on the future.

I am particularly interested in helping the Society promote the versatility and value of Arabian horses to a wider audience; reconnect with former members and enthusiasts; and encourage younger people and newcomers as they begin their own journeys with the breed.

Those of us who share our lives with Arabian horses know how extraordinary they are. We owe it to the horses, to the people who have nurtured the breed before us and to those who will follow, to ensure that both the breed and its Society have a strong and sustainable future.
