Breeding Season is fast approaching and the prospect of using your stallion or breeding a new foal is an exciting and rewarding experience. The AHSA Ltd has many Regulations which MUST be adhered to, therefore, to ensure your stallion or mares impending offspring are eligible for registration, we have put this short checklist together to make the process easier for all concerned.
Membership
Owners of any Stallion or Purebred Mare, must be members of The AHSA Ltd to breed.
Owners of ANY foals, must be members of The AHSA Ltd to register those foals.
Stallion Owners – If you are planning on using your stallion this season, then:
- Are you a current financial member?
- Is the stallion adult registered in your name?
To Adult Register an Arabian Stallion he requires:
-

- DNA Typing and
- a Testicle Report.

- Is the stallion “Nominated” to stand at Stud for the season?
See Notification of Intention To Use a Stallion form on the horse forms page of the website.
- Ensure you provide each outside Mare Owner with a Service Certificate (when all service fees are paid) as this is required to register their foal.
Service Certificates can be ordered on the Notification of Intention to Use a Stallion Form or at any time directly with the office as required.
Mare Owners – If you are planning on breeding your mare this season, then:
- Are you a current financial member?
- Is the mare registered in your name?
- Has your Arabian mare been DNA Typed (NOTE – Older Arabian Mares may not have been)?
- If your Arabian Mare was born after 1/8/2000, does she have her Genetic Test Status recorded with The AHSA Ltd.?
- Is your stallion of choice ‘eligible’;
- Is he correctly registered to his current owner – check the online studbook (note that ‘sometimes’ the person standing the stallion is not the owner, however, they may be authorised to stand the stallion. This can be verified with The AHSA Ltd)
- Has he been Nominated to Stand at Stud this season? This can also be checked on the online studbook under his individual horse record in the ‘Nomination’ box.
- Agree to the price and terms with the stallion owner and ensure that you have a written and signed breeding contract in place.
- A Service Certificate MUST be provided to you in order to register your offspring by any stallion ‘not owned by you’.
If you do own/lease the stallion (at the time of service) and the mare (at the time of foaling), then you do not require a Service Certificate to register your foal.
If you sell a mare in foal to your stallion, you must provide a Service Certificate to the new owner.
If you have used a stallion that is not registered with The AHSA Ltd, then you still require a Service Certificate to register your foal. You can obtain a free, Non-Arabian Service Certificate from the horse forms page of the website for the stallion owner to complete OR they can supply a Service Certificate from the Registry/Society the stallion is registered with.
- If you are planning on using overseas semen or doing an Embryo Transfer, then your mare is required to be Nominated for such. These Nominations/Permits can be found on the horse forms page of the website.
