IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM THE AHSA
Working With Children Policy
The AHSA Board wishes to advise members of an important update to our Working With Children policy. Following a comprehensive review and consideration of member feedback, the Board has resolved to amend the policy as follows:
“REVISED RULING: From 10 January, 2026, the AHSA requires all Judges, Officials (volunteers), over the age of 18, officiating at any AHSA event or an AHSA Affiliated event, must carry a current ‘Working with Children’ card.’”
‘The AHSA demonstrates and takes care and caution for all members, especially Children, but does not accept responsibility, obligation, blame, liability or legal challenges for activities of said Children. Children entered in or associated with AHSA and Affiliated events, remain the responsibility for the parent or guardian.’ Board of Directors.
This revision reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring that AHSA policies remain practical, transparent, and aligned with the needs of our community while upholding our duty of care. The key change arising from this review is that Professional Handlers, Professional Riders, and Professional Trainers will no longer be required to hold a Working With Children Check in order to compete at AHSA‑sanctioned events.
This adjustment is intended to streamline participation requirements while maintaining the highest standards of safety and welfare across all AHSA activities. We thank our members for their continued engagement and support as we work to ensure our policies remain fair, contemporary, and responsive to the evolving needs of our sport.
